When
we decided that we were going to purchase a dog we wanted to have a dog that we
could all enjoy. We wanted a breed that would live in the house, but also suit
our outdoor life style and be able to work and possibly show when time allows.
But most important of all our dog must be happy to be a pet & enjoy cuddles
& fuss, they must also have an excellent reliable temperament & enjoy
the company of young children. For these reasons we chose a Labrador .
The
first Labrador to join our family was Hercwood Aisla of Wilarklodge, (Kess); we
purchased her in December 2001. She has
had one litter of puppies, we kept three back and the others went as pets, show and
working.
Our
dogs spend most of their day with us round our horses and our little boy, Kien,
who was born in August 2007. Quite
often you will see the labs lying by the buggy with our little boy while he
enjoys a snooze.
Kess is the mother of Wilarklodge Foxylady winner of THE JOINT AID FOR DOGS TROPHY at Crufts 2008.
We
breed a very limited number of litters, and we do it because we really enjoy
our dogs and puppies. It is our aim to
breed a quality, well-bred, happy healthy well socialised puppy, we hope that
puppy will be happy to be your pet/companion and will have the bloodlines and
quality that will hopefully work & show well. As we only breed a very few
litters we are able to invest as much time as we can into the puppies, they are
regularly out with us, coming for walks round our fields, they are used to
other dogs, horses and our cat, Boot’s!
They are also used to our little boy Kien, stroking and playing amongst
them. No doubt as Kien gets older he’ll also be taking them for walks.
In
order to give our puppies the best possible start and to reassure you that we
have done everything that we feel we can to help our puppies we joined the
Kennel Club Accredited Breeders Scheme.
The aim of the Kennel Club Accredited Breeders Scheme is to provide a
framework to encourage the breeding of healthy well-adjusted puppies. It lays
down a series of requirements that the breeders must follow in order to
participate in the scheme .
Before we breed from our girl’s we make sure
that they have been Hip Scored & Eye Tested, we also only use
well bred dog’s that have been hip and eye tested. All our puppies are Kennel Club Registered. They are regularly
wormed, been vaccinated and health checked by the vet, puppy will come to you
with a puppy pack which will include a letter on how we’ve cared for them,
advice on feed and general care, a picture of Mum and possibly Dad, a copy of
the pedigree, hip & eye results for Mum and Dad, a contract of sale, and
last but not least a small bag of the food that they have been reared on.
